Tijuana lies a mere ninety miles south of Los Angeles, just across the southern border with Mexico, and although the distance is relatively small, the cultural and economic disparities are enormous. Contention over the southern border has ratcheted ever higher, often with dire consequences for those seeking refuge in America. In the summer of 2019, amidst the highly charged immigration debate and numerous articles describing the horrendous treatment of migrant families at the southern border, photographer Michael Rose and journalist David Adelson decided to witness firsthand the situation in Tijuana, Mexico, and document their findings with a series of photographs and recordings.
